I will be on vacation in Seattle and Portland next week and am looking for the locals favorites (especially for good seafood and typical northeast fare). I live in NYC so no need for the super fancy spots - I am looking for more of the rustic, original feel that I can't get in the city. Hidden spots that aren't in the guidebooks and great outdoor spaces would be a bonus!

There have been dozens of nearly identical posts and answers over the past two months with a wealth of information for you. Just scroll down, do ten minutes' research, and get back to us with questions. (I think you mean northwest, at least I hope so.)

One hint to eat like PDX locals: we have great downtown carts such as Sugar Cube for coffeecake made from farmers' mkt berries, Samurai Bento, Give Pizza A Chance with their handmade sodas, etc. http://foodcartsportland.com/

Go to Portland Farmers' Mkt to get the essence of what we're about. The best one is on Saturday AM where our best cheesemakers, bakers, and even a couple of carts will be.http://www.portlandfarmersmarket.org/

Unfancy spots I like:

Japanese - Biwa and Tanuki
Vietnamese - Banh Cuon Tan Dinh and Ngoc Han Bun Bo Hue
Italian - Nostrana and Caffe Mingo (though I still haven't been to Alba Osteria yet, with its awesome sounding Piedmontese menu)

Fancy spots I like
Lucier, Ten-01, and Le Pigeon.

If you show up for First Thursday, all of NW 13th Ave turns into an open air art gallery, and many of the restaurants feature patio dining, most notably Bluehour. Of course, if you're in that neck of the woods already, you should pay a visit to Teardrop Lounge, which is Portland's answer to Death+Company.
