The "New" Talesai - You've been warned

Had to meet friends in West Hollywood last night and thought of Talesai on Sunset at Doheny. We had been there many times before , but not for a couple of years. The outside looked the same, as did the inside - but that's where the resemblance stopped. What used to be a moderately priced Thai restaurant is now an INSANELY overpriced ($8 per cup Tom Ga Kai soup, $17 Pad Thai) disaster. The service was awful, the new menu offered a minimal selection of dishes , maybe one quarter of what you might expect in any Thai restaurant. Finally the food was just miserable and the portions nouvelle-sized. Everybody at our table grumbled - especially about the flavorless $24 Hidden Treasure appetizer. Ugh! Stay away!!!

I haven't been to Talesai in over a year, mainly because traffic around there is so bad now at night. However, I've been going there for at least 10 years and the prices have always been on the expensive side rather than moderate. I love the owner Ben and I have always enjoyed her food, especially the catfish curry and satays. I will let her know your comments the next time I'm there which will be soon because I want to see the remodel.

There was no catfish curry on the menu and believe it or not, no chicken satay - or shrimp- only beef. The people in our party who don't eat red meat were out of luck on that one. It was an abominable meal at a disgraceful price.

It's simply not a Thai restaurant anymore - nor a good version of anything else. Guaranteed it will go out of business.
