Went to the (IMHO) always great La Cachette last night. Service strikes the perfect balance between attentive and unobtrusive. The Sardine appetizer was simple and simply devine. My steak, ordered "charred, rare", was PERFECT. A simple request that many a place cannot obtain.

My last visit there was not so great - inattentive wait staff and my medium-rare was past well-done. We were not offered dessert or coffee refills - had to ask. I've loved this place before so maybe an off night.

Many years ago, we had a waiter pour our $80 bottle of wine into my husband's partially filled water glass. The did nothing about this & I was very surprised. Expected at least a glass of nice wine to make up or a complimentary dessert. Otherwise, delicious food, but service less than stellar. Again, many years ago, so hopefully, things are better now.

Went only once, and when the best description of the taste of asparagus soup could only be described as tasting green, I knew I was in the wrong restaurant. How can you disguise asparagus that much!
