Jole Restaurant, Calistoga Anyone Been

Only open a few weeks this is the restaurant opened by Matt and Sonya Spector who until last year owned Matyson Restaurant in Philadelphia, one of the most popular and refined BYO's in Philly. The Philly and NJ crew can attest to their skills.

Looks like its named for their two boys, its located where the old catahoula was located.
The menu offers medium sized plates (not small tapas) with medium prices which allow you to put together your own tasting menu.

No affiliation, just a bit jealous wishing I lived out in Napa Valley to enjoy their food :)
)If your thinking about trying a new place, give it a try.

We plan on visiting when out we're out in the Sonoma and Napa area in September.

I ate there last week and the place was pretty full. Service was pleasant but was slightly disappointed in the food. The price point to portion ratio was alarmingly steep. I did enjoy the lamb tongue salad with hericoverts. The cornmeal [not so] crusted oysters erred on the soggy side. The baby octopus arrived oversauced. Decent wine list though.

I ate there this Tuesday and had a terrific meal. The menu is quite inventive, the service low key but extremely attentive, and the corkage fee modest - they even comped our third bottle. Two small dishes and a dessert made for a very tasty dinner that was also reasonably priced. I had the pequino stuffed with fresh crab as well as the smoked sweetbreads and both were absolutely delicious. Our party of six stayed four hours, were never rushed, and left feeling as if our home town of Calistoga had something to really crow about.

I hope they're able to succeed and thrive. They're in a tough position, though. Lots of competition in the tiny town of Calistoga, and in Napa Valley in general.
