Ideas for Cocktails & Bakeries

Montreal Chowhound visiting Boston this week.
I am looking for nice classy locations to have cocktails before dinner.
Also looking for best bakeries or pastry shops.
Any tips would be appreciated.

  1. Though Boston isn't huge, it would be helpful to know where you're staying, and where you're thinking about having dinner.

    1. Where are you staying and where are you going for dinner? (just trying to narrow the location down).

Opps sorry. I am staying in Back Bay area.
I have take the suggestion from the board to dine at Les Palier, No9Park and O Ya.
We are a couple in the 40's looking for somethings classy typical Boston.
PS. My previous post reminds me of a story from a friend of mine that used to work at a airline in reservations, he would get calls to book a flight to Florida. When he would ask where in Flordia people would say in United States or they would say Collins Street. They callers would never have an idea of what part of Florida! Made him crazy

      2. I haven't been yet, but consensus on the board is that classy + great cocktails = No. 9 Park in Beacon Hill.

As for the best bakeries, there's Flour, with locations on the waterfront and in the South End. For Italian bakeries, try the cannoli or lobster tails at Mike's or Modern in the North End.

        1. Since you are staying in Back Bay, two classic hotel bars spring to mind. The Oak Bar at the Copley Plaza Hotel is unique and the Bar at the Taj Hotel (formerly the Ritz Carlton) is quietly elegant.
