Cupcakes in Phoenix Area

ginael Aug 3, 2008 12:27 AM

I have tried Sprinkles in Scottsdale 4 times now, and each visit leaves me so disappointed. I am looking for a cupcake that is moist but not too sugary. Are there any places in the Phx area that can offer this? Maybe I should wait for this fad to die down, but cupcake cravings have been getting the best of me. Surely there are higher quality cupcakes out there, without the hoopla surrounding Sprinkles!

I felt the same way about Sprinkles and I was so excited when they finally opened. I really like Sugarlips Cakery on Alma School and Guadalupe in Mesa. http://www.sugarlipscakery.com/index.asp
They're $2 per cupcake, buy one get one free on Friday's and the cake is always moist. The pink champagne cupcake is my favorite.

I am looking forward to trying Sugarlips, it's close to where I am staying. The cupcakes at Sprinkles are not only overpriced, by overrated. It must be the long lines that get suckers like me to give it another try. Thanks for the rec, I will post my reply once I go to Sugarlips.

I accidentally gave you the wrong cross streets. Sugarlips is at Dobson and Guadalupe. They're tucked away in the corner of a strip mall there. I hope you enjoy it.

When it comes to cupcakes in the Phoenix area, you have plenty of options that do not involve Sprinkles. People have already mentioned Wicked Bakery and Sugarlips. These places have great cupcakes. There is also Sweet Pea Bakery downtown at 3rd ave and Jackson in Phoenix. The cupcakes there are not overly sweet. There are also good cupcakes at TammyCoe Cakes at 7th St & Roosevelt in Phoenix, the cake is usually moist but the frosting can be very sweet. There are also good cupcakes at Copper Star Coffee at 7th ave above Indian School in Phoenix & Lulu's Cupcakes at Miller & McDowell in Scottsdale.

Tammie Coes are my fave. I have had sweet pea and I just thought they tasted to chi chi for me (Fancy). I like more of a b-day cake tasting cupcake.

BTW I do LOVE sprinkles, i have been ther 2-3x and loved it.
