  1. Only to the Brielle location. Large portions of uninspiring food; I would say a step above the average diner. It's the kind of restaurant to take kids to or for elderly people who like to make 3 meals out of their dinner. The atmosphere is pretty nice at the Brielle location, and it looks like they do a booming bar business.

mschow....thanx for the review.....I hope to hear more also......I guess with a gift certificate I'll have to endure a meal there anyway....oh well we'll see what happens. Is this some kind of Chain place?

    2. I have only eaten at the Brielle location. I actually am trying to find the Brick location, and I am not sure where it is. But, back to the Brielle location....If you have a sophisticated pallet, then this is not the restaurant for you. If you like "bar-type" foods, then this is a good casual dining spot. I don't think you will be disappointed in the quality. Hamburgers and Rib-eye steak are good choices. Foods that are "ethnic, i.e. Italian" I tend to stay away from those choices on the menu. Although, some of their specials are very good. I like the restaurant for a meeting spot with a group of friends. It can get noisy on a Thurs, Fri and Saturday night in the summer. Otherwise, this is one of my favorite restaurants at the Jersey Shore. Prices are not too high.

      2. I have actually been to both restaurants. The one in Brielle I was not impressed with, very dark and loud and the food was not that good. The one is Brick is totally opposite. Very nice atmosphere.......excellent food, large portions and wonderful waite staff. I highly recommend it

            Jackie18,
What did you order at the one in Brick? We are going with another couple tomorow and would like to know what was ordered and enjoyed there. Do they have a liquor license? Take reservations? Thanks

            1. re: Barbarella

I have not been to the Brick location but thave been to Brielle many times. I do not agreee with Jackie18 at all - the food and ambienance at Brielle are just fine. Keep in mind this is not fine dining but a family oriented restaurant. That said the brick location, just as Brielle, does have a licquor license and I'm certain a very nice bar.

I have been to the Brick location twice and both times I was disappointed. the first time my husband, daughter and I sat and waited for a waitress for almost 10 mintues. It seems that no one wanted to take the table because it was around 9:30 and the restuarant was starting to cut staff for the night.

Second time we just went for the bar pies and drinks. Our waiter placed used glasses on our table from the table next to us, so he could use two hand to take our order.

We told the manager and she could care less. We will not be eating there again.

Too many other eateries in this area to waste my time or money on a second rate eatery.

                  Hey Babs,

Any other ideas in the area? We have friends in Toms River and we like Brick as it is almost half way for both of us.Anything but Japanese will do.

                  1. re: Barbarella

Barbarella, have you ever eaten at Craig's on Princeton Ave. in Brick? We have been there serveral times for lunch and dinner and never been disappointed. If you have never eaten at Bistro 44 I would suggest that also.

Let us know where you ended up eating. Enjoy

                      Babs16,

The four of us did go to Simkos that night. We called ahead and were given a table in the bar. If I had to do it again, I would wait for one in the dining room as the bar was very noisy. My DF and I split a dozen oysters 3 of which were bad. We told the waiter and he returned with 6 more. DH had pasta with chicken in some sort of Alredo sauce that he really like, my DF and I had the scallops with vegetables. I thought they were too dry and we both found grit in them. My friends DH had the NY strip and really liked it. All in all it was okay. Bill came to $180 with 6 drinks. Have not been to Craig's in years will check it out soon. I heard Bistro 44 was good, also on my list.

                              Sorebily ;
It is a Pub type w/bar and great bar food ..the sandwiches and burgers are the high lite ..Has good crowd ,a lot of locals and boat people for the marina down the street

                    2. re: JerzeyShore

Unfortunately things changed over time and I will no longer recommend Simkos at all. Because of the bad behavior of their management and staff I strongly suggest that this place be avoided period. And this suggestion applies to both the Brielle as well as Brick.

                2. By chance, I just had lunch at Simko's, Brick location, today. I had Chicken Parmesan, and a bowl of chili. The food was comparable to the chains (Applebee's, Ruby Tuesdays, TGIF, Houlihan's, etc. Good, satisfying, but not great. The service was adequate. ONE COMPLAINT: The main course (Chicken Parmesan) came out of the kitchen just moments AFTER my appetizer (chili). Not paced well, at all. On top of that, the bartender held up my pint of beer (which still had another quarter to go), and asked me if I wanted ANOTHER. I think I rattled her when I complained that I felt "rushed." It was a LONG time before she came along, again! I'd go back, though! Gee, I wonder if THIS review is going to be yanked from the boards, just like the review I wrote about Fans Pub and Grill in Jackson, NJ, last week??? Hey, Mr. Webmaster, if you don''t like my honest opinions, just say so, I'll go away!!!

                  1. Not a good place to book a party, they have a reasonable price for the buffet but then they JACK up the price of alcohol. Some of the Staff is rude and do not return your calls. Just go elsewhere for a party, not worth it.
