STL Richmond Heights Yen Ching Restaurant

I see they deliver. Is their food as good as I've heard?

  1. Depends on what you've heard. I love Chinese food, and have gone there with family a couple of times mostly because it is convenient to Clayton. I've found it to be serviceable at best -- not bad, a bit bland. Unfortunately, I don't know of any of the more authentic places on Olive that deliver at all, much less into that area.

Thanks, but a bit pricey for Chinese food. I called to order and 1 order of crab rangoon was $5.50, and 1 order of hot braised chicken was $8.50. Thought that was a bit steep for basic Chinese.

So did you bite the bullet or go to an alternative? How'd it work out?

I told them thanks but no thanks. I can't find any good Asian food around Richmond Heights. Guess it's back to South Grand.

Have you ever gotten around to trying House of Wong (726-6291) at Central and Maryland in Clayton? I believe I posted about it when you made an earlier request for recs a few months ago. Excellent food, and they do have delivery, but I am not sure of the area covered.

Thanks for the heads up, p.j. No, I haven'd tried it but I'll certainly check it out!

I am definitely NOT a fan of House of Wong. Its really bland. Yen Ching is OK for delivery, but not all that for sit down meals. Not all that keen on Chinese food on South Grand, Olive just east of the Inner Belt is the better selection of good Chinese restaurants.

I don't know if they still exist but look up Showok in the phone book. It used to sit on Brentwood, where the big apartment complex is. They'd moved to Manchester Road when they got evicted because of the apartments. They don't do table service so they are all pickups and delivery. The guy is an awesome chef.

Be careful on delivery - the only time I have ever gotten anything from House of Wong (shrimp fried rice and crab rangoon over lunch) it came to something like $15 because of the delivery charge they added on. After tasting the food, I decided it was definitely not worth it.
