New Year's Eve
My family (me, my husband and 12 year old son) will be in Chicago over the new year for 3 nights. We will be staying at the Peninsula and attending the hockey game at Wrigley field on Jan 1. I would love a great place for new year's eve dinner - fun and good food - not too casual, but not black tie. We love all food. I will need a reservation as I don't want to go really late, cabs will be hard to get, and we have a big day with hockey game next day. Also, what will be open for brunch on Jan 1?
Any suggestions for a fun night on the 30th would also be appreciated.
Frankly, I'd just wait til late fall to reserve. Every place in town has a special dinner of some sort and they publish the menus in late November, early December. I know Chicago Reader publishes dozens of blurbs about who is offering what and you can browse online. The Tribune usually has a section about New Year plans.
Nearly every place in town has a brunch the next morning, too.
Many places do 2 seatings on NY Eve. So if you want to do dinner and then get outside to go see the Fireworks on Navy Pier, you can do that (they are on Navy Pier for NY Eve, yes?)
The Peninsula also has some very good restaurants in it, and likely will have a NY Eve dinner in one or more of them. Unlike many cities, Chicago hotel restaurants are generally good. They aren't afterthoughts, put in to satisfy travelers afraid to leave the premises ;)
