Lunch a la Ssam, POB (Pearl Oyster Bar) ...

MMRuth Aug 1, 2008 08:44 AM

Yes, strange pairing, but both tend to be in about the same price range for us, and are places we've enjoyed going for a late-ish lunch when my husband gets out of work early on a Friday. Any suggestions in that price range, casual, great food, walk-in, decent wine list (short but good is fine)? I feel like often we go to the same places over and over again! Any cuisine, any part of the city (well, not Wall St.) and say not north of 125th Street.

Just remembered due to another post that Spotted Pig is one we want to try.

Just wanted to mention that from 3-5:30P, they only have the bar menu available.

MMRuth, stupid question, but what's POB?

Pearl Oyster Bar. I'll have to check out the bar menu - I remember that gnudi and the burger are two recommended items.

Edit - looks the burger but not the gnudi are available:

maybe for next time: had a lovely lunch recently at snack taverna on the corner of bedford and morton. casual but nice quiet atmosphere, great food.

you could also try prune for lunch..

I have two late lunch walk-in spots. Gramercy (in the bar) and Lupa. Sure you've done both and are looking for something a little off the path, but it's american and italian, so does offer a some variety.

Actually, it's been ages since we've been to Gramercy, though we always enjoy the Tavern Room, so that's a great idea, though I might wait for that until post RW.

I wonder if the tavern room is being used for RW?? Tell you what...I'm going to find out in a few hours.

I gather from some RW posts that it is ... people were waiting on line for tables ... but hopefully there will be another Friday afternoon for it!

GT is RW menu for lunch only. (not sure if that answers my question). Well, going to try. Plenty of quality in the area if I fail.

Yes, the tavern room is used for RW and offer a different RW menu compared to the main dining room (though it is still $24.07 for 3 courses)

Ugh! will try anyway....Boqueria, craftbar, etc. There are other options around. Beats sitting in the dark at Sistina.

Got there a little after 2 o'clock, zero wait in the tavern room. manager said it was the busiest day they've had (being last day of RW).
