soft serve ice cream truck ala Mr. Softee?

  • 7

Desperately seeking soft serve ice cream truck driving around the Westside. Missing that darling East Coast Mr. Softee. Any advice?

  1. If you find one, let me know.
Otherwise, I guess just go to Carvel.

I just find it so odd that I can't find an old fashioned ice cream truck in West LA. Why don't they have one at the beach? At the park? In front of the private schools in Santa Monica? I'm tempted to buy a franchise.

    2. There was one that would come by Apt. in North Hollywood (Magnolia & Vineland). It was really good and came around twice a week. They sold Soft Serve, Real Ice Cream by the Scoop, and Nachos. It would always be on my street around 7-8pm. It would stop a three places on the block and every stop people would line-up. I must the street was ALL Apartment Complexs, and boy was it ghetto.

I know live near Victory and Coldwater and have yet to see anything like it. Oh do I wish that would roll down my street now.

      1. I've seen ice cream trunks in some neighborhoods, but I don't see soft serve, just the prepackaged bars/cones.

Carvel's one option, there's one on Santa Monica Blvd near Century City, I think.

As I am guessing you like cupcakes from your moniker, Costco as a soft serve ice cream on top of a half cupcake contraption from phillyswirl (http://www.phillyswirl.com/products/c...) that they sell in the freezer section. Surprisingly the ice cream is really soft and they are pretty good.

Truck with the cheap quality but not low price pre-packaged stuff stops at Roxbury Park in Beverly Hills.

          2. Unfortunately not a truck and not quite Westside, but Gill's Ice Cream in the Farmer's Market at 3rd and Fairfax has decent soft serve. They even do a chocolate/vanilla swirl.

I keep meaning to try the Carvel at 11037 Santa Monica Blvd but haven't made it yet, so I can't compare.
