Boston Chowhound needs Mt Dora area update

Heading down for long weekend for an in-law (not foodies) event. Read February Mt. Dora review on CH but curious if anything new or changed since then. Staying near Sorrento and hoping around to M.D., Tavares and Eustis. Local dives that have an "opinion" as well as higher end recommendations are welcome. Thanks !

  1. Here is the latest Mount dora update.

No more carribean food at arts of palm they are closed! But a pizza amore' is now open on 5th next door to the 5th avenue cafe. I have heard it is good and will report back. Louies oyster bar is back open but doesn't look like it is doing well. This place was known for cheap steaks served on a sizzlin platter, oysters and beer. We shall see if it lasts.
The chew chew express is now open friday and saturday nights. Big sandwiches, home cut fries and dollar drafts all night long.
There is also a new sports bar at donnelly an 441 called harlows. looks like a pretty cool place inside.

    Hope that helps!

      Thanks for your tips.

I got roped into doing the cooking for most of the weekend but I did have a chance to try two spots. The glazed croissants, apple fritters, and ham and cheese croissant at Sunshine Mountain Bakery could compete with the best anywhere. Also the Mt Dora Sushi Company did an excellent job. This from a snob who is spoiled by living just miles from some of the best Sushi joints in the country. Especially tasty were the crispy tuna roll and the tempura shrimp roll. Wish I had a chance to stay a few more days to work the sushi list.

Yes we are quite fortunate to have Takashi here on Mount Dora. The sushi house is still the rave here and i think will be for quite sometime. I ate there last week and had the rainbow roll. Awsome!!! My favorites are probably the newyork and the passion roll. Their hot items arent bad either!
Glad to hear your pastries were good as well. The bakery had been struggling after they lost their master baker.
