Good lunch of 1/2 octopus sandwich and 1/2 Cuban.

I recall a post recently saying they might close but things appeared to be the same as ever.

No petition. It was your post that motivated me to get over there and sign it...:)

New glossy takeout menus..including a braised pork shoulder..Fri and Sat.

Though I don't go very often, my friend and I both agreed it would be a shame to lose this little gem

I'm a big fan, though last time I was there I got a half-hearted vibe. Hope they are back in the swing.

Wow, I wonder if the hearing went their way, then?
I had the octopus sandwich last time I was there; just perfectly flavorful, tender, octopus...And a side order of stewed yucca; it's so hard to find it in any prep but fried...I hate to admit, I ate the whole thing for lunch...

Our 3some convened here yesterday for our weekend mini-chowdown. We ordered a warm bowl of pulpo al ajillo in a tasty garlic broth w/onions & cilantro w/a side of yellow rice, pernil & Cubano sanwiches and papaya, coconut & mango smoothies w/milk. Loved the pulpo. Sandwiches Ok, maybe a little heavy on the mayo. Nothing close to Chez Henri on the Cubano, but all satisfying to our hungry little band & a good place to be amidst the crashing thunder, lightening & torrential downpour. Chatted w/other patrons about their choices. Place is tiny w/maybe 6 small tables. Service friendly & very casual. ?owner came by & asked us to sign petitions and attest to rain problem. We'll be going back to try some more entrees vs. sandwiches(except maybe the pulpo).

PS - Pulpo is octopus! It's helpful to brush up on your Spanish, or at least names for food in Spanish, as English was definitely a second language for the young lady helping us....Also, the smoothies are called licuadas. And we missed the Fri/Sat pork butt - don't remember what happened, there!

I always specify my sandwiches "sin mayonnaise"...They use too much....

I ordered my pulpo sandwich no mayonaisse.

FINALLY went to miami cafe for lunch on friday. the 3 of us shared mofongo, yellow rice and beans and pernil. the mofongo was excellent. better than what i remember having in puerto rico. we asked for a side of sauce since mofongo is generally too dry to eat on it's own. they also offer a side of stew to serve the same purpose, but we preferred just sauce. rice and beans were great. we added extra sides of red beans to pour over the rice because we were in the mood. the beans were some of the most flavorful i've ever had. rice and beans also came with roasted sweet plantains which were ridiculously good. the pernil was a bit of a disappointment because it was very dry. our friend who brought us there says he's had excellent pernil there before so hopefully this was just an off day.

no one approached us about signing a petition and we didn't get the feeling that the place was on its way out. big papi has been quoted saying that this is one of his favorite restaurants. maybe more good press will help them out. i would hate to see this one go!!

Looks like they're toast. I went by the other night and the place is empty. No furniture, cooler, pictures or other signs of life were visible thru the darkened window and gated door.
