    I like Mama's Grill (meat) http://www.mamasgrill.net/

    and

    New Harmony (vegan!) http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?...

    Both are good casual choices.

Are there any decent high end Kosher places anywhere in the Philly metro area?

We really enjoy Espresso Cafe in North Philadelphia. The owner,Sharon, truly aims to please. He is especially good at aiming to please children. My 9 yr old has loved his food. We go whenever we get to Philadelphia. Yi Tsi Peking in Bala Cynwyd is very good. There is also a dairy place in Bala Cynwyd that used to be in Great Kosher Restaurants. It was pretty good. Mama's Vegetarian in downtown Philadelpia on s. 20 st has very good falafel. Friends of mine liked Maccabeem on S. 12 St in downtown Philadelphia. It is a meat Israeli place.

Maccabeam is no longer kosher (or at least no longer supervised by Community Kashrus of Greater Philadelphia).

Any idea whether the new owner is going to keep it kosher under a different supervision, or take it officially treif?

Apparently the answer is yes. Maccabeam is once again under the Community Kashrus of Greater Philadelphia.

There is a good dairy place in Bala Cywyd called Cafe Shira. It is at 134 Bala Avenue . We went last summer and enjoyed .

Does anyone have any recent reviews of "Max and David's" in Elkins Park?

Max and David's is excellent! Did you search on it? I went just a few months ago.

I was there a few months ago and I thought it sucked, from the service to the food. The only thing I had that was worth eating were the fries. I don't practice kosher though.

Lin Glatt in Cherry Hill NJ is pretty good. I hear the lunch special (weekdays only) is a real steal. Mama's vegetarian has great falafel in fluffy homemade pita bread (get it with the eggplant spread). New Harmony is my favorite of the kosher vegetarian Chinese places, but Kingdom of vegetarians is also good, especially their dim sum (not sure if the hashgachah is conservative on these two). The take-out fried chicken at the Acme in Narberth is very good. Thank you.

Yes,Mama's falafel is very good. Between three of us, we tried almost everything they served and enjoyed it all.

Mama's is excellent. I moved from Philly and miss it a lot.
In my opinion, the fried chicken at Acme is brutal.

I like the Acme fried chicken but it is no where near as good as Kosher Bites in Baltimore. IMO that is the very best I have ever eatten ANYWHERE! (kosher or not) It is honestly worth the drive.
Yi Tsi Peking is also very good! MMMMMMMMM Gotta go there again soon!

Wanted to report on my trip

Mamas Veg was very good. everything is made by them including the whole wheat pita

Max and David's was excellent. Much better selection than any place here in NY.
got to their website and see.

Was not inpresed at all with Holy Land grill.

Rita ices is definitley something to try. Its like a thicker slurpee with pieces of fruit in it.

                    Thanks again for your help.

Wild Cherry is delicious. Lemon is great. Chocolate and root beer are interesting - but a memory of childhood.

                      Hey folks,
I'm living back in Philly and not sure what supermarkets carry kosher meats. Also, are their any straight up kosher food markets in Philly?

                      Thanks!

DJ- What part of Philly? Most of the kosher scene is now in the Lower Merion area. I believe Best Value up in the NE closed. For meats, you have the Acme on City Line and Genuardi's in Wynnewood.

We actually drive to the Kosher Experience in Shop Rite in Cherry Hill NJ for kosher meat, they have a full butcher and kosher supermarket within a supermarket. Trader Joes carries some kosher chicken, turkey and steaks. Thank you.
