ISO Vegetarian Restaurant

My husband and I will be coming to NY at the end of August (Sunday night) to see a show (Hilton Theater) and spend the night at the Bryant Park Hotel (40 W. 40th Street). Are there any good vegetarian restaurants or non-veg restaurants nearby that will have more than one option for me?

I am not extremely familiar with the city, but if possible would like to find a restaurant that is within walking distance near the hotel and theater.

I prefer to stay away from strictly Asian/Indian restaurants.

Based on some searching on the boards, I have found 4 restaurants that look great, but that will require cabs to get there. They are:

Blossom
Pure Food and Wine
Candle Cafe
Counter

These would be a last alternative in case we can't find something else. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

The restaurants in the Josie's mini-empire have a lot of vegetarian options, and there's one at 3rd & 37th - not so far from where you'll be.

Thanks so much to small h and rutgers2 for your replies! I will definitely look into all of the restaurants that you suggested!

This is truly a help to someone not familiar with the city!

Hi GL Foodie, I work in midtown near Times Square and am vegan. I usually head to Hells Kitchen/9th Avenue but that may be a bit out of your way if you want something close to your hotel. If you don't mind coming down this way, there is a Turkish place called Dervish on 46th St. btw. 6th and 7th Avenues. Their menu is accomodating to vegetarians. If you would be interested in taking a long walk, there is a small but good Middle Eastern restaurant called Gazala Place between 48th and 49th Avenues. Zen Palate on 45th and 9th Avenues offers a sort of Asian fusion. You could also try Uncle Nick's on 9th Avenue (I think this one is between 50th on 9th Avenue). Otherwise, your 4 choices sound really good. Enjoy your visit.
