louie's lunch---yuck

What has happened????
Went yesterday and it was an awful burger. The meat was over done and dry. I would have sent it back but it was 3:55 and it was clear that they were wanting to close promptly at 4. The phone rang loudly 3 times and they did not answer it, I assume to avoid take out orders.
They are on the way to their yearly vacation so hopefully they will rest up and come back to bring us great burgers again.
The potatoe salad was very yummy.

Went there once about 5 years ago. Now I can say I've eaten at Louis' Lunch, the disputed home of the original hamburger. No need or desire to go back.

It is a New Haven icon, but I would never say they serve "great" burgers. In my opinion, their potato salad side was nothing more than bland potato and mayo and certainly overpriced for the tiny plastic cup they serve it in. I would recommend one going there if they chose to dine at the "inventor of the hamburg", but not for the quality of their food.

I agree with Sally - its only possibly worth the visit for the historical aspect. It is quite underwhelming if you go with high expectations for the burger.

They must have changed the pototoe salad because ours was really great. Boiled eggs, a bit of mustard, onion served on a plate ( not sure of the price).
Certainly the best part of the meal.
