rehersal supper in Houston
My son is marrying a Houston girl on February 28th, 2009 at a church on Westheimer near Beltway 8. I need some suggestions of where I can call for a rehersal supper that Friday night. I don't know much about the area so I don't know where to start. The only suggestion I got was cafe Annies but $70 a person is a lot more than I want to spend. Anyone out there have any suggestions?
Arcodoro. Had a group there a couple of nights ago in a private room. Huge praises for the food quality and depth of wine selections.
Lots of rehearsal dinners art held at Maggiano's, which is in the Galleria area like Arcodoro. Another place with really good food that is often used for rehearsal dinners is Ouisie's. It's fairly close to the other two. Rio Ranch at 9999 Westheimer was really good the last time I went there, which was a couple of years ago. It is very close to the location of the church.
Arcodoro, Ouisies, and Maggianos are too far away from the Beltway and Westheimer (same with Cafe Annie). In Houston, we think nothing of having to drive that distance. But with out of town guests and the location by the Beltway, I would go for something closer.
I second Churasscos. That's a great spot, and the have ways to block off your party. Give them a call.
Rio Ranch is an interesting suggestion, and should be much more reasonable than Cafe Annie or Churasscos. Their food is decent, but the service is always terrible. I always went for lunch as I used to work in the area; maybe it's not too bad at dinner, but I'd be wary.
Piatto by Royal Oaks is fairly close to where you are. It's a decent Italian restaurant.
Tommy's Seafood Steakhouse is ok, between Wilcrest and Kirkwood on Westheimer.
What about Fogo de Chao on Westheimer? It's a fixed price, huge hunks o' meat kind of place. My last company had their Christmas party there and it was such a hit we did it again the next year.
I attended a private function at Bistro Le Cep. It would be about a mile west of the beltway on Westheimer. We were in a dining room that held around 40 people. I think you could manage around $35-$40 per person for 3 courses here. They also have a reasonably priced wine list. With its rustic French bistro look, I think it would be pretty for a winter rehersal dinner.
Another option is Cantina Laredo which would be in the same area. I believe they have private rooms available.
Little bit further out Westheimer at Kirkwood is Piatto, a Carraba's family restaurant. Rioja Spanish Tapas is also at Westheimer and Kirkwood. I haven't been in a year or so, but they had great tapas and paella. It's in a strip center and not much to look at from outside, but the interior decor was very nice.
Lenore, where are the out-of-town guests going to be staying? It makes sense to me to have the rehearsal dinner at a place between the church and the hotel. If they're staying in the Galleria area, then you have more options for the dinner. Regardless, Churrasco's has really good food if it is in line with your budget.
