Devastating Northeast Harbor Fire--Apparently Started at the Colonel's

I just heard that part of the center of Northeast Harbor was damaged or destroyed last night, as a fire started in the Colonel's Restaurant and spread to several other businesses.

What a horrible thing to happen to that town. I hope everyone can rebuild, including the Colonel's.

  1. Here's photo of the fire engulfing the Colonel's,

I haven't been in the Colonel's in a long time, but they used to have quite a display of Wyeth paintings worth millions. Yikes.

That photo absolutely breaks my heart. I have been vacationing in Northeast Harbor every year since I was 10 years old. Just horrible...

Was the Tan Turtle Tavern affected by this? I know it is only a few storefronts down from the Colonel's...

No mention of the Tan Turtle. According to local reports, the fire destroyed three buildings: Colonel's, Wingspread Gallery and The Joy Building. It also damaged the Kimball Shop Boutique.

From what I can tell from these pictures Tan Turtle looks to be ok.

    2. Thank you for all of your info and photos. It is hearbreaking to see NE Harbor in that way. We love it there, it is very special. Will be there in September, we are so looking forward to it.
