Falafel - Sunnyside / L.I.C.
wasn't crazy about the falafel at el Shater, it was served at room temp and the falafels were hard.
Any other recs? I most like israely style with pickles and all the extra goodies (which shater does), but any other style will do. Trying to stay south of Qns blvd. Thx everybody for recs! (mark in sunnyside whatcha got?)

Try Mangal Kebab on Queens Blvd/47th St. They fry 'em fresh. You absolutely must request to have it on the homemade bread, not the regular pita. Their doner kebab is exceptional as well (again on homemade bread).
Regarding El Shater, I generally stick to the daily special. I usually find the other items (especially their phyllo dough desserts) to be stale.

Agreed, Shater's phyllo desserts sucked on the 2 or 3 occassions I tried em, and supposedly they own the bakery. I always get the shwarma, either chicken or lamb, they are most excellent (yes I just made a Bill & Ted reference).
But I always make sure to request he make the meat real hot, on one occasion he sliced it and it was just a little warm. Not as satisfying. The guy can be extremely generous with sandwich size, it's a bit of a let down when he is not. I try and chat him up as much as possible, I figure chipper = big shwarma. I got a special one time, some kind of chicken with onions and stuff in a red sauce. It was fine, since them it's always shwarma.
Thx for the falafel input, I'll try Mangal today.
PS - I LOVE shater's Babba.

Glad you liked it.
Mmmm. Now I'm craving a mixed doner kebab/falafel sandwich (yep, they've made it for me before).
The soups are good too.
BTW, it looks like they've expanded next door since I was last there.
