Dim Sum In St. Petersburg

The post by rikkikm went unnoticed last month since it was just a passing reference, but there is dim sum available at Halong Bay, 5944 34th St. in St. Petersburg. Yes, Halong Bay is a Vietnamese restaurant, and while I can't say that I can recall a Vietnamese restaurant serving dim sum, a good portion of the authentic Chinese restaurants in Tampa and St. Petersburg are Vietnamese influenced so it's not that much of a strech. Variety is quite good with over a couple dozen different items. Pricing is more compressed than you see in other cities - S $2.95 M-$3.25 L-$3.95, and certainly is not outrageous.

    1. I'm hoping to try Halong Bay soon. Love good Vietnamese cuisine, dimsum I'm still on the fence about.

As long as you avoid some of the more unusual items (beef tripe, chicken feet) you should do fine with the Halong Bay dim sum. Consider the shrimp balls, shrimp dumpling, stuffed eggplant, sticky rice, bbq pork bun, scallop dumpling, rice noodle rolls, etc.

              1. been there, it was good, no better than TC Choy or Chopstix. I guess for Pinellas Park it's probably the best I've had

Best bet for Dim Sum in St Pete (or the Bay area for that matter) is Halong Bay or North Sea. They are both about equal and have a significantly better selection than anything in the Tampa area.

I had a good experience there, food was pretty solid.

I haven't been back since I asked - repeatedly - if there was pork in a particular soup and was told no only to be served pork's blood in the soup and was scolded for not asking for no pork. Between that and the inch-thick pile of cigarettes lining the walkway to the door, I was pretty turned off. Dive is one thing, smelling cigarette smoke (and finding butts in my chair!) while inside eating was another - but I was already in a bad mood with the whole pork blood thing.

ugh, TA that is really really gross (the cigarette thing, i'm a rabid anti-smoker) but the fact that they served you pork blood is just reprehensible. i can just imagine how upset you were.

Wow! I would be really really upset about that. Sorry that happened to you.

ugh! that sucks. It sure wasn't that bad when we went. my wife worked at the dealership across the street maybe 2 or so years ago (last time I went), and it wasn't bad like that. I wouldn't even have gone in if it was that nasty :(

eww which one are you talking about ?

                                      2. There's a new dim sum parlor opening up in St. Pete/Kenneth City on 54th ave near 275. I haven't been yet, but it might be worth checking out.
