I want to do a deli platter for a party for about 40 people(including little kids).Anyone have any thoughts on the best places in Pasadena area to get meat, cheese, bread, etcc... Would love to have someone do all the work but am wiiling to go to places to shop and put platters together myself.

Several of the Armenian markets on Washington have great prices on cold cuts/cheese and can prepare platters at a great price

I suppose it depends on what sort of quality you're after. I really like the selection of Italian meats & cheeses at Porta Via.

If you want to go basic, start at Costco.

If you want to go a bit more upscale, try Julienne. www.juliennetogo.com

In Pasadena, locations with a wide cariety of deli meats are hard to come by. I think you want more than what you can get at your local supermarket.

I will suggest Claros Italian Market located right next door in Arcadia. It is located on Huntington Drive between Santa Anita Ave. and First Ave., on the north side of the street.

Plenty of parking in the back.

try Claro's Italian Deli in Arcadia or San Gabriel. Or maybe try Eagle rock Italian Bakery

Since you'll be wanting just good "normal" deli meats and cheeses, I'd say you couldn't do much better than Ralphs - the one our friend calls "Rich Folks' Ralphs," on West Colorado, has about the best deli selection. I would choose to shop a bit and put together a good selection of my own, rather than buying one of their pre-made trays, partly because I have my own ideas as to what items are good fits with each other for my particular group, but mostly because I can control the costs a whole lot better, as those Ralphs trays tend toward the expensive. If you still want to see what combinations they offer, though, the deli folks are willing to show you their list of available trays and their prices.

my first thought would be nicole's gourmet. http://www.nicolesgourmetfoods.com/ca...

whole foods can serve as a back up.
