I haven't seen a recent thread on this. Would appreciate your suggestions. Thank you.

Thanks, Robert. You're right -- it IS very good (and inexpensive).

I really like Sabuy Sabuy, at the head of College Avenue and Broadway...unpretentious and everything I've had there is quite good.

If you're good with a place that serves both Thai and Laotian, Champa Gardens often gets good reviews. Their mango shrimp curry dish (forget what it's called) is excellent. Another Thai/Laotian place, Vientian Cafe, has great tom kha gai, although their curry was a bit bland. Otherwise when I want Thai I head to Berkeley (or Pinole, actually).

Champa's Thai food seems very average to me. The Laotian dishes are great.

Where do you recommend in Berkeley, Marc?

The food at Soi 4 is really good. Nice atmosphere and good wine list compared with most Thai places.

Definitely. The Gruner Veltliner on their by-the-glass list goes very nicely with the food. And the turnip cakes are excellent, along with many of the other dishes.
