Jamaican patties

Where are the best Jamaican patties in Toronto? Need some for a birthday party...also thinking of making some if anyone has any tips.

Much thanks in advance.

The ones from Peanut Plaza are very good. Also try Gerry's on St. Clair West near Christie, beside McDonald's. They make spinach-filled ones too. You can also order cocktail-sized patties in advance.

      Allan's has two locations

      1) peanut plaza on Don Mills North of Sheppard
      2) warehouse on Kennedy, North of McNicole.

Thanks so much for the info everyone! I'll check them out (and the thread) and will try out that recipe. Looking forward to some patty tasting...

This thread, http://www.chowhound.com/topics/303406, has the patty situation pretty well covered.

totally my vote! beware of the inconsistency in the spicy... it can be mindblowingly hot.

I got to get to this place someday when in the anywhere near area!!! Even the most delicious patties that are describeda as spicy, are closer to very gentle or some little heat. How often is it more to the mind blowingly hot way and is the spicy always spicier than your average pattie???? Thanks!!!!

again, it's inconsistent... but at worst, the mild is spicy as heck. you might end up getting a couple milder ones mixed in but for the most part when you ask for spicy it'll be pretty damn hot.

my spice loving compatriots beg for liquid and break into sweats when it's on the hot side of the spicy version... if that's an indication.

Super Thanks, will get there when in town and enjoy! If that hot and spicy, usually liquids don't help, so I'll go through the thin meaty hot section and save lots of the outer crust to slowly melt and be shuffled around absorbing the spice!

My favorite ones are from Mr.Jerk just north of cabbage town (sorry I forgot the street, it's near Sherbourn), their chicken one is awsome, they do sell them by the box, might be frozen, I 'd call and see if they can make you a special order...I have made them before too, I used a recipe from The Bamboo Cook's cookbook as a guide with good results...
