Wine Market RW Report
Went to Wine Market last evening for the RW menu. Some slight changes from the posted menu on the website, but no big deal.
For appetizers, I got the salmon tartare w/ dill and capers. It was good, but the salmon flavor was overpowered a bit by the other components. Delicious house made salt and vinegar chips to eat it with, though. My companion got the purple potato vichyssoise (sp?) with meyer lemon cream. This was delicious (and beautiful visually), and I thought the the potato and lemon went really nicely together.
For entrees, I got the beef sirloin w/ fennel and bacon gratin and paddy pan squash. Nice steak, good blackberry sauce, but my favorite part was actually the squash. Companion got the chicken breast w/ potatoes and carrots. Really well prepared and moist, but I didn't think it was anything to write home about.
For dessert, I got the lavender and fig bread pudding with almond toffee. This was my favorite dish of the night. Every flavor worked together beautifully...it was really great. Companion got a chocolate cake w/ bing cherry mousse. She commented that she had been hoping for more cherry flavor, and I agree. Again, nicely prepared but not outstanding.
The meal had good pacing, and the portions were right on. All in all, I wouldn't say it was an amazing meal, but it was very good and I would definitely recommend it, particularly for Restaurant Week.
Thanks!

It's off of Fort Avenue in Locust Point, about a mile or two west of Fort McHenry, and the website is:

Went to the Wine Market last week, prior to RW. I enjoyed the food--had an appetizer of pork pate and another app of fried green tomatoes. The tomatoes were very good, cut thickly and firm. Hubby had an entree of rare tuna with panzarella (sp?) salad. He felt the portion was a bit small, but I didn't necessarily agree.
Anyhow, if you do decide to go, which I recommend, the directions on the WM website are INCORRECT. After you merge left onto Key Highway, then stay in the RIGHT LANE, as you DO NOT turn LEFT onto Lawrence Street (it will take you into the parking lot of the Museum of Industry). Make a RIGHT TURN onto Lawrence Street, then a left onto Fort Avenue--go about a block and turn right into the parking lot of the Foundry. FoiGras

I think you may be a little turned around directions-wise. If you are coming from 95 onto Key Highway (the exit just before the tunnel) you would make a left at Lawrence. If you are coming from the Inner Harbor area you would make a right on Lawrence after merging left onto Key from Light. Anyhow, well worth the drive.
