Cafe Notte is another wine bar in the neighborhood on 2nd and 85th. They serve food and the bartenders are very friendly and chatty. We almost always end up talking to others are the bar when we go.

Are you trying to remember the name of an actual place or are you asking for a recommendation? I don't recall any restaurant/bar on that actual block.

Maybe Cavatappo Wine Bar? its around 90th and 2nd ave. its very small inside but has a communal table that encourages random people to chat over wine and tasty small plates (the prosciutto/arugula pizza is yummy.)

Not the right neighborhood, but Accademia di Vino on Third in the 60's is good for that, too. They have communal tables, great wine by the glass, excellent after the "Bloomies" movies

What do you mean by "captain's table"?

A captain's table is provided by some restaurants so if you are alone you join other people. Lupa is a place that has one.

I really just want to go for a drink and a light snack where people may be friendly any place near E. 85th St. between Park and Lexington. I come to the city early before a class and would really just like to hang out with friendly people! Any ideas?

There's not much on Lex by there, but over by 3rd b/t 82 & 83 there's Pudding Stones, a nice wine place were you can get small plates.
