Recent Visit to Fifth Floor?

whiner Jul 27, 2008 11:31 PM

Anyone been in the past year? How was it? Also, will I feel uncomfotable without a sportcoat on a Wedensday night?

Yikes! I just read Bauer's recent review. OY! Well, unless a parade of people tell me otherwise...

MB's reviews have tilted towards liking the same stuff...places with full bars, new American/cal-something cuisine. If 5th Floor wanted a good review from MB, they should have read the script on him -- serve a few strong drinks up front and have nice handsome male waitstaff wait his table.

Do people still react to Bauer's reviews? I was chuckling with some Southern California friends about Bauer's reviews in the past when it was clear that the restaurant hadn't properly fluffed him, or perhaps that was his boyfriend's fault?

Anyway, I find Fifth Floor far more comfortable than it used to be when I felt out of place without a broomstick shoved in a not so visible place. It's more accessible, tastier, and though I rarely ever wear a jacket anyway, perfectly fine without dressing way up. A nice shirt/sweater, whatever...don't look like you just woke up and you'll have a great time, whiner. I really wonder what Bauer was talking about when he dissed the new chairs there; I was trying to figure out how to slip or roll one out with me...

I'm trying Orson tonight...wish me luck, folks...

How was Orson? I went a couple weeks back and loved it...

My wife and I went last month and loved it. I do agree with Bauer about the chairs, though. They look great but they are hard to sit in. I suppose that for anyone with extra long legs, they might be comfortable, but for me (a guy of average height), the chair was too deep and I was uncomfortable after just a few minutes in it. Of course, the food was good enough that I would have stood through the meal if it had been necessary.

The service was outstanding - our server was well-informed, as well as attentive and prompt without hovering.

I was not crazy about the new decor. I loved the original look and found the new decor very uninspired and generic. Fortunately, I wasn't there to critique the decor. I was there to have a great meal and that I did.
