fresh-made Takoyaki in SF

Hi all,
I've been looking for restaurants that serve fresh-made (not frozen reheated) takoyaki, but no such luck. Preferrably in the city, but anywhere in the Bay Area is fine too. I'll drive for Takoyaki!! I know there was a topic about a year ago but I wonder if any new places have been discovered since then. Thanks!

  1. If you go to Japan Town in Sf there is a stand that makes it fresh. I don't remember the name of the place but it's inside the shopping center.

I don't believe this stand is still in existence, but please correct me if I'm wrong. I've been looking for fresh takoyaki too...

Benihana used to have a stall that served fresh takoyaki, but it's long gone. They also used to have an okonomiyaki grill, but I think that fell by the wayside, as well..

    2. I made this search a few years ago as well. Tanpopo in JTown has fresh Takoyaki!

Mmm, nice pic! :) I did go there, but on their menu it says "deep fried octopus balls." :( Is it made from scratch now & they just didn't change their menu? Anyway, I will have to give it a try!

      1. Just went to Angelfish in Alameda last night and noticed Takoyaki on their regular menu. I would assume they don't serve the frozen kind, but I didn't ask. From the quality of most of their food, I would highly recommend trying it out!

        1. You might want to call Nijiya Supermarket in SF Japantown. I know the Mountain View store at their deli referigerator, they have it sometimes. So if you want it piping hot and fresh, find out when the batches come out. I'd say after opening hours and before the lunch rush. Not frozen, but if it sits in the refrig section it will cool off very fast. You can arguably pre-order ahead of time, I cannot say why they won't do that.

Now that you mention it, I have seen takoyaki in the SF J-Town Nijiya deli section. Never tried it, though, because I'm usually there in the evening, when it would have been sitting for long time.

          2. This recent post recommends the takoyaki at Amasia Hide's.
