Jake's Crab Shack

Has anyone been to Jake's Crab Shack in Belmar?

  1. This is a great little spot on the boardwalk, run by Chris Brandl. Haven't tried yet, but I am sure anythin Brandl has his hands on must be good.

    1. Yes - I walked in asked a few questions and promply walked out. I could not get an answer to my questions as the grill man did not speak or understand English. There were a bunch of crab cakes laying on the grill that looked like they have been there far to long. I short this is a typical Jersey shore summer rip off joint. It will be gone the week after Labor Day and return anew next summer as another...

        You're right. Ended up trying it and was very disappointed! I make better crabcakes at home.

            2. I had lunch there last Sunday. I ordered the $8.00 crab cake. it came on a potato roll with one slice of tomato and a little lettuce. As the signature dish, and I was told his "almost nationally renound "crab cake it was disappointing and should have had at the least some chips with it. Mine too are better at home. Wonder what the rib eye was like on the menu? Guess I will never know. Another rip off by Chris. Bye, Bye.

                We split the Crab Ball app. for a snack earlier in the week. We were served six balls and a ton of fries. The balls were meaty and had good flavor, but three of them were still quite cold inside. It was clear that they were previously frozen. The fries were not blanched properly and consequently were greasy and soggy.

                I love the location, feel, and basic concept of the "Shack." Further, I think Brandl is a talented chef and I respect his ethic and the manner in which he has responded to criticisms of the Restaurant. Perhaps, there is a chance Jake's Crab Shack could evolve and please food geeks, but I wouldn't be particularly surprised if it doesn't.

                  I walked in, checked out the menu and was dissapointed. Mostly fried items, not even much seafood---expected to see cooked crabs, not just crab cakes....did not try anything.
