what happened to the cannery row? anyone know where i can get a dish like they used to make? Bouillabaisse lobster, squid, clams, mussels, king crab and prawns in light saffron and tomato broth.

Murrieta's has a Westcoast Bouillabaisse

There's a good fish soup at Big Fish on Edmonton Trail. My favourite day there is Monday when oysters are 2 for one. Comfortable, good service, delicious food.

Last time I had their fish soup it was terrible. Rotten potatoes in it, can you believe!

Yuck, sorry Sarah. The only thing worse than rotten potatoes is rotten fish. Hope they were contrite.

Mercato's fish soup is brilliant although it's not Bouillabaisse. JoJo Bistro had a good version but it is closed now too.
Monty's Crab Shack in the northeast near the airport does Bouillabaisse but I haven't tried it myself.

Out of curiousity, Mr. S took me to Monty's Crab Shack. Horrific food, though the service was really good.

Horrific - wow. Thanks for the heads up! Glad to know that the service was good, at least you would have been able to get out quickly.

That leaves it seems no place to get bouillabaisse in town. Although Catch is nominally a seafood specialist, they don't offer anything like this. I have had cioppino, an Italian fish soup, at a couple of the fish restaurants in Calgary, but nothing to recommend.
