Berlin...new, interesting, and less pricey?

My wife and I are going to be in Berlin for 5 days in mid August and we would like to find some new, smaller, up and coming chef, kind of places. Not super rich(food that is) but more experimental and clever. Part of the reason is that we are then headed to Burgundy and will be doing the heavy duty French dining so don't want to overwhelm our stomachs before but still have some fun eating and exploring. Plus we are sort of saving food budget for the French part of the trip. We are also then moving on to Barcelona which I think will have more rich, spicey food.

Any help would be appreciated.

Of those three, Hartmanns is decidedly the most expensive, but not crazy. Oderquelle would be your cheapest option & it's all pretty light & modern German.

        You'll love it here!

Sounds perfect. We are already trying to squeeze in more and more because there just seems to be so much that we want to do. It's great to get some on the spot advice.
