What's wrong with CF Folks?

A few months ago they got a new chef. At first I was worried that the quality of the food would decline, but I was assured by the managers that the incoming culinarian was well qualified and would honor the tradition of the lunch counter that has become an institution in DC.

I've held off on writing this for some time now in the hopes that things would change, but my fears have become a reality. Firstly, the quality of the food has declined. Plates coming out of the kitchen no longer look as tidy and defined as they once did. In terms of overall tastiness, the dishes fall 100 yards short of their previous glory. The specials menu, supposedly covering a different ethnic cuisine each day, seems to be stuck on roast chicken, flat iron steak, moules frite, and other uninspired miscellaneous offerings.

In the past, what I enjoyed so much about CF Folks was the constant evolution of a internationally inspired menu. Everything was great, whether it was a plate of chicken fried steak, a bowl of vegetarian curry, or a healthy scoop of pork enchiladas. Now, the moules tend toward rubber, the roast chicken, albeit well-prepared, is uninspired and boring, and even the crabcake has suffered from a heavy hand of mayo and salt in the kitchen. Having once been a thrice weekly venture, I find myself navigating elsewhere searching for new lunch options. It's a sad state of affairs, and I fear that I'm the only one who's noticed...

  1. I have noticed a difference. I ate there a few times last month. The crab cakes were "looser" than usual. One day, I had the shrimp and grits special and it was awfully salty.

        It's been a while since I've been there or to its carryout sibling "The Well Dressed Burrito" for lunch. How's the quality at the WDB holding up?
