Sharing a Plate in London

My wife and I will be visiting London, specifically staying in Kensington. My question is that after a esophegeal cancer operation I can only eat/drink about 16 oz of food and beverage at one sitting. Here in the States my wife and I often share a plate. This is usually not a problem on this side of the pond. And I tip as if we had two meals so the staff won't feel cheated. My question is, is sharing a plate accepted in the UK and if so do the restaurants charge extra? We will be staying in a small hotel with a kitchenette and will eat "take away" meals as much as possible but will have to eat some meals in restaurants.

  1. You need to remember that the portion sizes aren't as big in the UK as they are in the States. Most restaurants will be happy to serve you a starter as a main course - perhaps that might be a solution? Or you could try a Middle Eastern restaurant and have meze.
