Hi Strumi,
I was in Vienna for one week with a couple of out of town tours. I followed up on some leads you provided me and others on this board.

We stayed at Hotel Stephanie so breakfast was looked after and I might say quite good.
Anyone staying here would mot be dissapointed. They had it all.

Onto the streets.

Coffee and Deserts, had both Demel and Aida. Aida has great coffee and wonderful desserts at much better prices, I did not understand the hype over Demel. Demel was rushed and there is very little customer service. We would have coffee and dessert evey afternoon. (Go to Aida)

Lunch, twice we had Trzeszniewski sandwiches. Wonderful light, tasty. Perfect lunceon food with a glass of white wine or beer.

Finsterer Stern, Could not locate this place. Searched all up and down Shulhof, asked several people around there although nobody had a clue. We ended up at anothe place just of Shulhof, forget the name and it was decent. It was in a courtyard.

Dinner's were great. We stayed away from the crowds.
Czaak was great local Viennese food.
Wild was really nice, excellent patio, had a great meal with some great wine.
Pfarrwirt was a great place to dine, the one english speaking lady was wonderful and they too had great food. We sat inside as it was cool on the evening we were there. Very tastefully prepared dishes and fair prices as well.

My personal highlight was again just a neibourhood place, no fancy food and no tourists. Only locals. Kolonitz!!! That was the biggest best prepared Schnitzel ever. 3 large portions with this huge salad for under 8 euro's. "Wow" The weather was great and we sat out on the sidewalk patio and had some Gosser beer with it. Just fantastic. I'll tell you doing the quieter non touristy dinners was certainly refreshing and enjoyable.

Thanks again Strumi....

    Wow !!

I really love that you went to the Kolonitz-Beisl ! Of course you were lucky to be able to sit outside, inside it is quite cozy, but spoiled with too much cigarette smoke...

Regarding Finsterer Stern: Most likely you looked during the day ?? On an evening between Monday and Saturday it is easily found, since the Schulhof is so small. And they also have a nice outdoor setup right in the middle of Schulhof. Maybe you did not even find the Schulhof, which is east of Am Hof / south of Judenplatz, at the end of Parisergasse: http://www.speising.net/essen/detail/...

    And isnt Aida great ??

Yes we did look for Finsterer Stern during the day. Regardless we still enjoyed all the other locations we went to.

      Thanks again,
