Counter NYC veg bistro
Had a 8/10 meal there last night.
They brought out a wheat bread with paprika on top and served with a chili oil soy dip. Delicious.
The avocado basket salad was great. Heaty and tasty and beautiful.
The wild mushroom raviolis were pretty good but not great. Nice presentation--large ravs with fava beans scattered on top in a light tomato concasse--it looked amazing but the pasta consistency wasn't right and the filling was not quite flavorful enough.
They offer affordable and tasty wines, we ordered a bottle of the sparkling rioja. Lovely.
There was good service except the plate clearer was awful. He came by so many times to collect our plates before we were done and we kept telling him we weren't done and he still managed to take our plates before we were ready.
The manager was attentive--when we asked if they had frangelico he brought out a little sample of amaretto (all they had) and apologized for the delay in the dessert arrival (we hadn't noticed).
Dessert was the lowest point of the meal. We ordered the sunday--maple ice cream with pecans. The ice cream was icy but the waitress warned us that we may find it so. Didn't like the phyllo basket they served it in. The waitress had recommended the fondue or brulee but we weren't in the mood for either.
The vegetable tasting mosaic was the true winner of the night. It was a huge marvelous plate of a large varitety of fresh veggies each prepared in a delicious and different way. I'll be back for that plate.
And the meal wasn't too expensive at all. Very reasonable for the quantity and quality of the food.
