Amazing Burger Joint in Doylestown

I just stumbled upon a fantastic new burger joint that opened in Doylestown, PA called Basically Burgers. The menu is amazing and includes Beef, Salmon, Ostrich and Bison Burgers along with amazing fries, shakes and Nathan's hot dogs! To top it off, it is family owned and operated, so you get that personal touch that I really like when dining out.

It's located at 12 W. State St. in downtown Doylestown (just across the street from Starbucks).

I highly recommend it to anyone craving a fantastic burger.

Check it out: http://www.basicallyburgers.com (seems like it is still under construction)

      The fries are great...

    2. I find this place to be fairly unappetizing. Food is less than than what I would pay money for, zero ambience, and seems very downscale for the center of Doylestown. It's been there for a couple of years.

Actually - it recently opened. It used to be "Stuff It" and is now basically burgers. It's an old-school just a burger joint - nothing special...just great meat.

No, Basically Burgers did not just recently open. It has been there at least two years. I live in the town. Perhaps you are referring to Five Guys. which is new...

      2. I haven't been there in awhile. They didn't have any of the different burgers you mention (salmon, ostrich, etc.). I remember the burger being good, but the fries not so good.

I just ate at the new 5 Guys in Doylestown yesterday, but I'll give "Basically" another shot- thanks for the post.

5 Guys huh? Trying to mapquest it up. How was the food there?

It's a chain, but the food's really good with an "old school burger place" vibe. For example, they have a sign that tells you where the day's potatoes come from (somewhere in Idaho).
It's in the Super Fresh/K-Mart shopping center, ironically, right next to a Jenny Craig's.
The burgers are really good, and the fries, I would say, are great.

Finally tried Five Guys in Doylestown the other day. Given my username, I was utterly charmed by the decor, which included several fifty pound bags of poatoes. And to emphasize the whole fried in peanut oil they used the best possible way to make their point. Free peanuts! This place knows how to use 3d visual aids! The fries were very good. I swear next time I'm going to head over to Gross Gourmet for some fried chicken and forgo the yummy potato salad and slaw they always have there. I'm going to take that chicken to Five Guys and get a large order of fries and sit in my car or on the curb somewhere and have me a picnic of fried chicken and bodacious fries. I wonder if the fries would stay warm til I made it to the tile works?

Glad you enjoyed it! Also, thanks for the tip on Gross Gourmet- I've had a hankering for some fried chicken.
As to the question if the fries would stay warm...In my car, they probably wouldn't make it that far to find out!

Gross Gourmet has been one of Doylestown's little secrets for well over twenty years. They have been through three owners and I do miss the previous owners The last time I was there before it was sold to a catering company, the cook's favorite song came on the radio, Dancing Queen and spontaneously the cook, another staffer and I started singing and dancing. You can't beat that atmosphere in a take out place. So much fun. I haven't been in for awhile but some uptight guy in a suit waited on me, and he couldn't seem to understand that lingering over the many excellent picnic choices was part of the experience. It was after the lunch rush and I was the only customer. But the food was still really good. The place feels stripped down but now they do offer mashed potatoes as one of their sides! I hope the Dancing Queen is still there.

We tried five guys the other day. I was surprised that they were so popular.

Burgers were cooked on a flat grill, not flame or charred, and they only do every burger to well done. They did offer fried onions and mushrooms, but kiss of death yellow american cheese.

Which was good on the toasted bun, but I still love a good rare burger.

I would call the burgers better than fast food, not restaurant quality.

The burgers are pretty big, and written on the menu as Burger or 'Little" Burger, but no one tells you that the little burger is average size the the regular burger is actually a double. I was glad to have ordered the little, but Dh was a little mad! He didn't want that much beef. We had told the girl we'd never been there before too.

I was really unimpressed by the burgers there, as was my friend. I guess I was trying to be kind by not even mentioning them. I think they have hot dogs too, so next time I am going to get a dog with my fries or just get the fries to go and eat them with some fried chicken. With all that good fryiing going on I kind of wish they would offer fried fish and slaw to go with them, but I understand they are trying to keep it simple and part of the beauty of the fries is that nothing else gets dunked into that peanut oil so it doesn't get contaminated. But I got fried onions on my burger and the fried onions were all I could taste, and they didn't put that many on there! But dang those fries are good!

            2. Both Five Guys and Basically Burgers are good, albeit a little different. The fries at both are very good-- BB fries as more like Boardwalk fries in my opinion. I also like the fact that you have more interesting toping choices at BB like a fried egg and spicy onions. The different meat choices are nice as well and the triple decker grilled cheese and fluffenutter sandwiches are REALLY good, too.
