I have a recipe for chocolate tofu ice cream that calls for stevia, 1 tsp., I believe. I'd like to try the recipe, which is non-dairy.
Given that we were unable to find a certified kosher brand of Stevia at Trader Joe's, and given the negative aftertaste reported in this thread, can I just substitute sugar for the stevia?
I would assume I would need to use 2x the amount of sugar to sub for the stevia, correct?
Thanks, Chowhounds, p.j.

I have a recipe for choco tofu ice cream that calls for 1 package of silken tofu and 1 cup of sugar: if the proportions for the tofu are the same, I am assuming that the amount of sugar is also likely the same...if not, come back on and I will post the recipe (I have to go home and find it-its the old-fashioned kind, the kind I tore out a newspaper and stuck in a file folder, but it is delish!)

I just made an oreo tofu ice cream

1 (14 ounce) package firm, reduced fat tofu
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup half and half - you can substitute soy milk
1 (16 ounce container) non fat cool whip
25 oreos, crushed

Process tofu, sugar, vanilla, half and half in food processor. Put mixture in a large bowl and fold in cool whip and oreos. Freeze. No need for ice cream maker.
