What kind of Rest. is this? & Where to find it,Tokyo?
We will be in Tokyo over the weekend for two days, and I am looking for a certain style of restaurant.
My wife was in tokyo a number of years (15yrs?) and went to a restaurant where she said a man sat in the middle of the room or behind a semi circle counter , and using a long stick with a paddle on the end would slide different foods onto a grill or into an oven.....
I would like to suprise her with finding this style of Japanese service or the restaurant if the style is unique.....
I know Tokyo can be very expensive...and I am on a family trip, but we all like Good Japanese food...(not americanized )

It doesn't sound like any particular type of restaurant. More like the operation of that particular place. Maybe someone knows one like it.
In the same vain of that style, you may want to research here "teppanyaki" or "yakitori" restaurants, which both feature similar operation, sans the paddle.
And we've been trying to allay the budget fears of first time travelers for a while now. Compared to other large international cities such as Paris, London, and New York, you will most likely find Tokyo to be much more reasonable for moderate range dining- even for families. Popular family foods that you may want to do a search for on this board would be- shabu shabu, yaki niku, nabe mono, and kaiten sushi.

These two places are in Roppongi (I don't know anything about either place.)
