I had tickets to a 7:30 performance at ACT the other night and decided to try Colibri since it was directly across the street from the theater. There were two of us, they bill themselves as a Mexican "tapas" restaurant. We arrived at 6:00pm to a mostly empty restaurant (it was a Monday night) and although it took awhile to get service to place our order the food came fairly quickly. I know that there have been raves for the tableside made guacamole and I knew we had to order that ($10 - ouch). It was made to our particular heat level and came with delicious warm, homemade corn tortillas. Fantastic! Easily as good or better than Maya which has always been a favorite with me. We also ordered another appetizer - three small Sopes Surtidos ($9) with three different toppings. We were able to cut each in half so we could try all three. The one with black beans was extremely tasty. We also had a full order of carnitas which was really tender and had good flavor, it came with a spicy chile de arbol salsa on the side ($14), we could not finish it all. We also got a side of Mexican rice ($5). With an endless re-supply of the warm tortillas we were able to make some killer tacos with the pork, guac, salsa (they bring three with the tortillas when you are seated) and rice - add a couple ice cold cervesas - yummy. They also boast over 350 tequilas for those with a designated driver... Some people would scoff at paying over $50 for a Mexican meal, but it was just perfect for our needs. The place was almost full by the time we left and the sound level much more elevated. They also had really nice live guitar music and we had to drag ourselves away to the performance across the street.

We ate there on Saturday night a week ago. It was all very good. Our only negative, it is not small plates, as we thought. We ordered thinking little amounts of food. We found everything was more a regular entree size. So we had way too much food to eat.

We had no reservations and they worked us in. When we left it was an hour wait for a table. We have been there several times for appetizers and drinks. Always good. This was our first time for a full meal.
