Buying cooked shrimp/crab for a party

I am having a cocktail party on Friday night for my husband's work. It's comped so I don't have as many worries about cost as I do about ease. One of the things I'd like to do is get cooked shrimp and maybe crab claws to serve chilled. I had been planning just to go over to Whole Foods Friday morning and buy several pounds but I thought I'd check here and see if anyone has a favorite vendor for this sort of thing. I'll be putting them in my own serving dishes so it's less the artistry of the arrangement that is important than the availability, quality, ease, etc.

Additionally, any thoughts on how much to buy? We're having about 30 people. Some people get really piggy with shrimp cocktail (myself included). I was thinking maybe 5 or 6 pounds? Or are cooked shrimp significantly lighter than uncooked?

  1. the best cooked shrimp I have ever eaten was from Bryan's in Laurel Heights. I planned to buy uncooked shrimp but the man handed me a pre-cooked one and it was better than anything I have ever managed on my own, and I love my shrimp.
I don't know about cooked crab, but I am sure you can call and ask
