Orlando - Simple, American Cuisine?

I will be traveling to Orlando to visit family next month. The area we will be in is around Lake Lucerne. We are in search of a few places where we could get a simple, american meal, preferably with an emphasis on fresh fish (although I realize that may be a tall order). A few exotic flourishes are fine, even appreciated. Just a place where one can have a nice meal and be able to talk.

Thanks!

I agree with the recommendations in the above posts. I second the recommendation for Cityfish, particularly if you and your guests are keen on simply-prepared fresh fish.

Your best bet would be heading to an area of Downtown Orlando called Thorton Park. Its just east of the main drag (Orange Ave) and is home to several good picks. A great happy hour ($10 off any bottle of wine) and good food is at Dexters. Other good spots in Thorton Park are Hue, City Fish and Wild Side BBQ. Its just a nice place to hang out and have good conversation over dinner and drinks. Kres Chophouse is a real nice place just up the road from where you'll be staying as well as Harvey Bistro.

Since you're going to be in the downtown area, here are some suggestions:

        Urban Flats - flatbreads galore!
La Boheme - fine dining excellence
        Kres - modern steakhouse
        The Beacon - ultra-modern lounge
HUE - ultra cool atmosphere, great seabass
CityFish - fish & chips, casual
Harvey's Bistro - solid, American bistro
O'Naturals - organic, sustainable, lunch counter

That should be enough to get you started. I'm sure you'll get plenty more suggestions, but those are some great options with a variety of price ranges and styles.
