There are a bunch of diabetic-friendlier cakes (which I think are sweetened with maltitol) at Longo's. Also, I highly recommend the cheesecakes from Carole's Cheesecake, sweetened with a maltitol/xylitol combination. Both maltitol and xylitol give the sweetness of sugar; maltitol can cause stomach upset in some people, so it should be eaten in small doses to check one's sensitivity first; xylitol can have a cooling effect, but I must say that wasn't noticeable at all when I ate the cheesecake (I was eating it cold, anyway).
Good luck, and do let us know what you choose and how it works out.
re: Full tummy
i called sugarfreeshop and they forwarded me to a company called yoummy cakes in milton , thats way west of me and a little too far, the cheesecake place carols cheese cake is about 10 min from my place but my moms not into cheese cakes , i am tho ;) lol ill have to use that resource some other time. so thx everyone for your suggestions so far , but the search continues.
yesterday i celebrated the birthday of my so's father who is diabetic. we were also looking for a sugar free cake on saturday and found this place very last minute: http://www.thesugarfreeshoppe.ca/
they do take orders in advance, but since that didn't happen for us, we ended up buying their sugar free cheese cake and other sugar free goodies. the diabetic father loved it.
