My 5 year old daughter only wants pasta and steak for her birthday. Does anyone have a recommendation for a place we can get a good, but affordable, steak preferrably in mid-town (but other recs appreciated) on Sunday afternoon? Thanks!

In Italy, it's the Tuscans who eat pasta, followed by steak, especially in Firenze, so I'd be looking for a Tuscan restaurant. I don't live in NYC, so I can't advise, but maybe someone else knows a good one.

My 4 year old daughter loves the steak at Ottomanelli New York Grill on 93rd and Lex. It's not a fancy place, so you don't feel at all uncomfortable with children. They serve terrific quality meat and huge bowls of pasta for extremely reasonable prices. You can look it up on menupages.

I don't have restaurant suggestions, but want to congratulate you on raising someone who knows her own mind! I love to listen to kids with clear, strong opinions (except when it's late and/or they're tired!).

I also agree with others on Landmarc which is great for kids with its diverse menu (and a specific kid section). The dessert platter is always a crowd pleaser (including adults).

Other restaurants that may worth consideration are (not mid-town though):
Balthazar - the classic - you can't beat the atmostphere. Not sure if you have brought your daughter there but if you haven't, it's not a bad idea to introduce to her a classic NYC bistro.
Lupa - Italian instead of French. Here you can more picks for pasta than steak (they do serve a hanger steak), but the pasta is definitely better than the above two. Plus you can have olive oil gelato!

          Carmines - affordable.
The Palm or Palm too - pricey, but better food.

Italian restaurants are, of course, the first place one thinks of for pasta. However, just about all of them have at least one steak on the menu.

Trattoria Trecolori, on 47th St., b/t B'way & 8th Av., is a favorite of mine and many other Hounds. The homestyle Italian fare is well-prepared and delicious. Lots of great pasta options + one steak -- a grilled sirloin -- @ $21. Since I've never tried the steak, I can't say how good it is. Service is friendly and efficient. The large space has attractive decor and comfortably-spaced tables.

tony di napoli is an upset stomache waiting to happen. The Landmarc suggestion sounds good as well as others on the thread.

Landmarc has solid (if not revelatory) food, including both steaks and pastas. Open in the Time Warner Center and at least the Tribeca location is reportedly child-friendly.

Thank you everyone, we did go to landmarc and my daughter loved her little steak, and my husband loved his burger. So we won all around!
