On Night in Charlottesville, VA

mscookies Jul 20, 2008 09:30 PM

We will be spending one quick night and day in Charlottesville. Any suggestions for a good dinner, not too expensive, but moderately priced, non-chain, any sort of cuisine except Asian (food allergies). And a good casual lunch place? Any favorites? Thanks!

    * Also on Saturday is the local Farmer's Market on the downtown mall. Which opens at 7 AM? and closes at noon. It's pretty excellent to hit that up and then have a great lunch at Hamiltons

Welcome aboard! Please do let everyone know how your trip turns out and whether you found good chow. Charlottesville has a lot of great options, it'd be wonderful to see the conversations grow about them! Enjoy.

Hamilton's on the downtown mall. French-American cuisine with alot of local and seasonal ingredients. Lunch entrees in the $10-$15 range, prices nearly double at dinner.

Continental Divide on West Main ST., Southwestern Tex Mex fare. $10-$15 price range as well, but don't accept reservations and always a wait. Go early.
MAS Tapas located in Belmont (about a mile from the downtown mall)
            - Incredible Spanish Tapas food, price ranges from $4 roasted potatoes w/house aioli to $15 for braised lamb shank. Also no reservations, opens @ 530.
ZOCALO Cuban-Latin fusion, small menu, entrees $20-$25 but accept reservations

Bizou is on the Downtown Mall and a local favorite for lunch al fresco. Sort of upscale comfort food.

Another great lunch spot Downtown: http://www.monolocorestaurant.com/

        More casual for lunch: http://www.stickskebobshop.com

We love Zocalo for dinner (http://www.zocalo-restaurant.com). They are also on the DM and have indoor and outdoor seating.

New on the scene is The Local, near Downtown in Belmont: http://thelocal-cville.com. Well priced and the food we've had has been very good.

L'Etoile is a great restaurant but is just above what I'd personally consider "moderately" priced as most of the entrees in are in the mid $20s. For excellent food with entree prices in the teens, consider Orzo. http://www.orzokitchen.com/Lounge_Pag...
