Looking for advice - 40th b-day at the beach (from Malibu to Manhattan Beach or so)
Has anyone heard of anyplace that can accomodate this -- beach, cookout or clam bake, fire, alcohol and music? Party for about 75 people. Don't want to spend more than $5K. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Although it may not seem like the most tasteful venue, Union Cattle in Hermosa Beach has a beautiful rooftop deck that has a wonderful view. Their menu is simple but they do a decent steak.
As an added plus they have a lively bar scene downstairs that guest can enjoy if they want to continue to party later in the evening (don't let the mechanical bull scare you!).

Is the Seaside Lagoon still open in Redondo Beach? We have had birthday partys there. Once there was a BBQ guy there with all his equipment setting up for a party. It looked great and I thought it was a great idea. Look them up online and see if it's what you are looking for.

It's BYOB. And maybe you could take up the whole top patio. Not "on the beach" but it's across the street from the beach.
