Greenville-Spartanburg, SC Diners?

Will be in the area in August and am looking for local diner type places. Anyone have recommendations? I've seen a couple places listed on the Greenville, SC website - Stax's and OJ's Diner. Are they worthwhile visiting?
Thanks for any input!

  1. I haven't been there yet, but I hear that the Northgate Soda Shop is a local institution. It's a real divey place just north of the heart of downtown Greenville. The pimento cheeseburger is supposedly the thing to get there.

    I can't speak for Stax's of OJ's.

    1. Stax Original on Poinsett hwy is HORRIBLE. Draws huge crowds, nonetheless. Waitstaff have been there forever. My husband just went there last week (I swore if off years ago). He said he had forgotten how horrid it was, and remarked on how it could be possible to serve roast beef so foul He thinks it may come from a can. Avoid.

Is OJ's on Pendleton? If so, I've only been once, on whatever day it is when they serve real roasted turkey, but it was pretty good. The husband has been on other days, but says only the turkey has impressed him. Maybe you could call and find out when is turkey day!

The Ham House is very popular, but I can't speak to it.

      1. Definitely Stax Omega - I forget the road (Orchard Park Drive, I think) - it is a diner type restaurant with anything and everything.
