Dim Sum in Victoria, BC
Greetings! We'll be in Victoria, BC next month and we're looking for a great dim sum place for lunch. We'll have a rental car so we're flexible about location. We've been to Victoria several times and have just walked in to dim sum places, but we wonder if we're missing a unique or particularly great place to try. We welcome suggestions!
I have never been there, but I hear Jade Fountain (Douglas St) is good. Hopefully someone from Victoria will come along shortly to provide a first hand recc.

I have been to Jade Fountain (if this the located in the Red Loin Inn) and it is decent dim sum. Not on a par with the best offered in Vancouver and the San Francisco Bay Area. But with that said then it is on par the second tier dim sum.

The place to go is Don Mee's (the actual name is Don Mee Seafood Restaurant) in Chinatown. They have a great dim sum daily (I think from 10-2, but check before you go if the time is critical). They're very busy, so the dim sum is fresh and they have a good variety. There's a line-up by 11 on weekends, but it moves quickly.
I tried Jade Fountain once, and was disappointed with the location, quality and selection.

Thanks, all. We'll check out Don Mee's. I've read about it and am happy to hear the reports I've read are accurate. Thanks for the quick responses.

We dined at Don Mee's in September 2009 and were very disappointed! It was just mediocre and very overpriced, compared to experiences in Los Angeles and New York City. I don't recommend it.

I would second the recommendation for Jade Fountain. It's in a weird location (more of a hotel restaurant, with the entrance through the lobby and up one floor) but the decor was nice and traditional. They also have carts which is always fun.

After seeing your latest post I went back to my notes and would like for you to try Golden City right outside of Chinatown proper. They have carts on weekends at least and may not be as good as Jade Fountain on some dishes but a larger selections.
Well maybe on my next visit to Victoria we can have a mini get together for dim sum. There maybe be other hounds out there.
