If you want really cheap and no atmosphere, there is Jordan's Lobster Farm in Island Park off of Long Beach Rd. - before the Long Beach Bridge. Besides lobster, there are other seafood dishes you can order and they also have a take-out department. They will steam your lobsters at no extra charge. There is both inside and outside dining- self service only.

Thanks Eileen. I appreciate the suggestion.
I've been away so many years I can't think of where to go. I vaguely remember some places in Bayville. I know there are places on the south shore too but I just don't recall any and of course, they have probably changed anyway.
Had a nice meal a few weeks ago in Babylon at the Clam Bar. I live in Northern VA and there aren't too many affordable lobsters lurking there at all. I'm sure Long Island holds more promise.

Actually, I read an article in the paper the other day about some kind of brown tide or something that is affecting the lobsters off Long Island. The restaurants can still fly them in from further up in the northeast, but I don't know if there are many local lobsters around.

Funny that you said that- the people at Jordon's told me the other day when we were there the lobsters are from Maine. now I know why. Also- The Fishery in East Rockaway may also be what you are looking for. They take reservations- even for 2 and are reasonably priced. You can eat either inside or on a deck overlooking the water. Service is excellent and the food is dependable. We never had a bad meal there and i noticed that there are lobster specials at times.

Actually, I thought that lobsters have always been from Maine!

Friday night might be the worst possible time to be down by Jordan Lobster Farm - that area is a madhouse with all the bars, people, cops, and parking. I don't know how good the lobster is, but the Singh restaurant group has been running lobster specials at all of their restaurants - Singleton's, Thom Thom, Louis and Marx, and The Seafood Shack at Tobay - might all be an option. Maybe the the little clam bar in Point Lookout next to The Fisherman's Catch.

Might not be what you're looking for, but Popei's on Wantagh Ave. in Levittown has specials Friday and Saturday nights after 10pm. The place is usually pretty crowded with couples and families having a couple of lobsters and a bottle of wine. No atmosphere to speak of, but great prices. A whole lobster used to be $9.99, but last I heard it was up to $13 or $14. Still a good deal, though.
I was also at Fisherman's Catch in Point Lookout last week, and they're running a $38 clambake special throughout July and August. A 1-1/2lb. lobster, clams and mussels, sides, and so on. I don't think it's limited to weeknights, but you might want to call ahead if you're thinking of going there.
