We will be spending the weekend at the Holiday Inn [15550 E. 40th Avenue).

We will have a car, and are looking for ethnic food in the area. Nothing too expensive, but really enjoy trying something unusual.

Also interested in lighter fare - good salads, deli, etc.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Since you have a car, you could also leave the area and head down Colfax for Ethiopian...I like Axum a lot, although I also like Arada on Santa Fe.

Africana Cafe is another winner on Colfax for extremely reasonable Ethiopian and tends to attract a lot of off-duty cab drivers.

Since you are on the east side of town, I'll concentrate my recommendations to the east and southeast side of town.

There is lots of Mexican and Salvadoran on E. Colfax Ave. (15th Ave if it was a numbered street). Las Cuevas and Tacos y Salsa come to find. Both of these are on the Aurora section of Colfax. In toward downtown and west of Colorado Blvd. is Greek Town. There are several Greek restaurants with common ownership along there. Tdorhere is also an Ethiopian restaurant in that stretch.
Two of my favorites are also located just west of Colorado Blvd. on Colfax. Bastiens is a 1950's steakhouse with terrific steaks and seafood. Really good salads and fantastic hot peach pie with cinnamon butter sauce and vanilla ice cream. They always have interesting fish specials. Right nest door is Steve's Snapping Dog - a Chicago-style and more hot dog joint.
Still further intowards town on 17th Ave. is Steubens for an upscale diner experience. Good crab cakes and french fries.
Let us know what ethnic foods you are interested in and I'm sure that you will get many more suggestions.
