My birthday is coming up and I'm looking for a restaurant to have a birthday dinner. There will be just under 10 guests and it should be in the 20-30 dollar range. I'd like somewhere not super loud with a good cocktail list. (And no tapas/izakaya places please!)

Simon has already recommended Boneta and Chambar - which have great cocktails and food ...but over your budget.

Stepping down a rung in the price ladder:

The Cascade comes to mind - it has a pretty deep cocktail list and the food is decent. Waazubee has an excellent, approachable, and progressive wine program, the cocktails are great and the food is decent.

Neither of these places has food that is in the same league as the top rung restaurants like Boneta and Chambar....but they both provide good value at that price point.

Cascade has a great cocktail list and the entrees aren't too steep. They take reservations for groups of 12 or more - otherwise, you'll have to show up early.

do you mean 20-30 per entree, or total?...(and that means without drinks i assume)...

Boneta has great cocktails and menu, but entrees are in the high-20's, and starters are about 15...Chambar has great cocktails too but can get loud and many of the plates are best shared, so perhaps too tapas-like...

Would you consider Moroccan food?...i've been very impressed by Marrakesh, and it fits the budget just right...

          20-30 total. (excluding drinks!)

in that case, Boneta will be too steep...but Marrakesh fits that budget perfectly...

            any other preferences cuinsine-wise?
