favorite cowboy bars around GC/Mon Vlly?

Anyone know any dancehalls in the four corners area? of course looking for good beer and decent chow. Not looking for themed "western" bars, but locals' hangouts.

Would small towns be the best place to look? For a friend who's coming in Sept. from across the pond.

I drive through that area a bunch. In fact I am going through on Sunday. I have had my eye on the Twin Rocks Cafe in Bluff Utah the last 3 trips. I guess I will stop and let you know if it is as cool as it looks from the road.

I just drove through Bluff, Mexican Hat, Blanding etc Sunday. I didn't find any cowboy bars in Bluff. The locals said there were not any there or nearby. I did stop into the Twin Rock Cafe. Pretty from the outside but not much on the inside, except for the high end curio shop. They had some very nice SW art.

You may need to respecify the area of interest. The span between the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley is all within the Navajo Nation, where alcohol sales are prohibited. On Hopi lands, both sales AND possession of alcohol are prohibited.

You might want to consider what off-reservation towns you will be visiting and re-post your query with the names of those towns (e.g., Flagstaff, Durango, CO) in the title line.

I hope you find what you're looking for.

Thanks for the heads up on the alcohol regs. I'm not sure of their itinerary except that they'll be flying into/out of Vegas, renting a car, seeing the Grand Canyon (perhaps from the Hurricane side) and want to visit Monumnet Valley. They may go back throught Winslow and No AZ to Vegas.

Since they are big fans of all things Western, thought a good local cowboy bar, someplace with local talent, would be a hoot for them. I know there's good music in Phoenix and Tucson, just wondered about north of there.
